Town of Halifax - Calendar of Events - February 27 - March 31
The Halifax Congregational Church, at 503 Plymouth Street, will be hosting Chowder Luncheons each Friday during the Lenten Season, February 20 through March 27, from 11:30 to 1:00 pm. The luncheons will consist of your choice of Clam, Corn or Seafood chowders, dessert and a beverage.  The donation per person is $7.50. Take-out is also available. Please come and join us for a wonderful luncheon and fellowship!  All are welcome.

Our Lady of the Lake Church, 580 Monponsett Street, hosts a Lenten Chowder Supper on Friday, February 27, beginning at 5pm.  Offered will be corn chowder, clam chowder, baked macaroni & cheese and a weekly special. All for $5.00.

The Halifax Highway Department at 60 Hemlock Lane will accept brush at this location from 8am to noon on Saturday, February 28 from Halifax residents. No bags/piles of leaves or grass clippings. No large trees.

The Halifax Garden Club holds its first meeting of 2015 on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Holmes Public Library, 470 Plymouth St. The Garden Club fosters the gardening interests of its members; provides educational information about gardening; and encourages use of organic gardening methods. Meetings will be held at the library at 10 a.m. on the last Saturday of the month, through May. Refreshments are served; seed and plant exchanges are encouraged. Annual dues are $10. New members are welcome to join the Garden Club at any time, but meetings are open to guests and visitors, as well as members.

Silver Lake Youth Basketball Comedy Night is back!! Saturday February 28 at the Halifax Country Club - doors open at 630pm. Great raffles, laughs, games of chance, good cheer and all for a great cause! Join your friends and come out and support our boys and girls for what should be another awesome night! Tickets go on sale Monday, February 9; reserved tables of 10 can be purchased on-line for $250 pre-event only & individual tickets for $30. The Monponsett Trading Post is holding an ice fishing derby on Sunday, March 1 from 6:30am to noon.

The Silver Lake High School PTO will meet on March 2, 2015 at 4pm at the school library with guest speaker: Elliott Glass, Director of Career & Technical Education.

The Silver Lake Middle School Parents Teachers Organization will meet on Wednesday, March 4 at 7pm in the Middle School Library. All are welcome to attend.

The past few years Silver Lake Regional High School and student members of S.A.D.D. (students against destructive decisions) has sponsored two informational sessions about social hosting laws and issues endemic to our communities. These presentations illustrate, among other things, the legal consequences of allowing those under the age of 21 to possess alcoholic beverages.

We are pleased to be able to offer these presentations again this year. While we certainly welcome and invite all parents to attend, it is a mandatory event for all parents/guardians of junior and senior students who wish to attend their 2015 prom.  The junior prom will take place on March 27, 2015 and the senior prom will take place on May 15, 2015. Parents who are documented as having attended one of the social hosting presentations over the last two years are exempt and do not need to attend in order for their child to attend the prom. If you would like to confirm your past participation in either of these presentations please contact the main office at the number listed below. Freshmen, sophomores, and students from other schools who attend as guests of juniors and seniors are also not required to have a parent attend. Parents may choose from the following presentations:

The monthly TRIAD meeting will be on Tuesday, March 10 at 10am at the Halifax Police Station. The guest speaker will be Julie Richer from Harbor Community Health Center in Plymouth. She will speak on medical and behavioral health services.

The Halifax Council on Aging will hold its St. Patrick's Day celebration on Wednesday, March 11 at noon at the Halifax Country Club. Festivities include a full, hot lunch and entertainment. Cost is $15 per person. Call the CoA at 781-293-7313 to reserve a seat.

The Norwell Visiting Nurses Association will provide a free, walk-in, adult blood pressure and blood sugar screening clinic on Wednesday, March 18 at the Our Lady of the Lake Church from 10:00am to 11:00am. They will also answer questions about medications. Please call the Board of Health at 781-293-6768 for more information.

The Halifax Elementary School PTO will meet on Wednesday, March 18 at 7pm at the Halifax Elementary School.

Nomination papers for positions to be elected at the Annual Town Election will be available in the Town Clerk's Office beginning on Monday, January 12, 2015 and can be obtained up through March 26, 2015. All papers must be returned to the Town Clerk's office by 5 p.m on Thursday, March 26, 2015.
