Town of Halifax - Calendar of Events - March 13 - April 13
The Halifax Congregational Church, at 503 Plymouth Street, will be hosting Chowder Luncheons each Friday during the Lenten Season, February 20 through March 27, from 11:30 to 1:00 pm. The luncheons will consist of your choice of Clam, Corn or Seafood chowders, dessert and a beverage.  The donation per person is $7.50. Take-out is also available. Please come and join us for a wonderful luncheon and fellowship!  All are welcome.

Our Lady of the Lake Church, 580 Monponsett Street, hosts a Lenten Chowder Supper on Friday, March 13, beginning at 5pm.  Offered will be corn chowder, clam chowder, baked macaroni & cheese and a weekly special. All for $5.00.

The Halifax Youth and Recreation Department will hold a dance for 5th and 6th graders at the Halifax Elementary School on Saturday, March 14 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Doors open at 6:00pm. Students from Silver Lake and Pembroke are welcome. Cost: $8.00. Drop off and pick up children in the gym lobby, parents please be prompt. Proper dress is required. chaperones are CORIed and are teachers. Concession stand: pizza $2; gatorade and water $1.50; candy $1.50 (all proceeds benefit the Halifax Youth & Rec dept.) Raffle, dance contest, prizes!!!

The Holmes Public Library's Afternoon Readers Book Club meets to discuss An Invisible Thread on Tuesday, March 10 at 1:00pm. Pick up a copy at the library! New members always welcome! Light refreshments will be served.

The past few years Silver Lake Regional High School and student members of S.A.D.D. (students against destructive decisions) has sponsored two informational sessions about social hosting laws and issues endemic to our communities. These presentations illustrate, among other things, the legal consequences of allowing those under the age of 21 to possess alcoholic beverages.

We are pleased to be able to offer these presentations again this year. While we certainly welcome and invite all parents to attend, it is a mandatory event for all parents/guardians of junior and senior students who wish to attend their 2015 prom.  The junior prom will take place on March 27, 2015 and the senior prom will take place on May 15, 2015. Parents who are documented as having attended one of the social hosting presentations over the last two years are exempt and do not need to attend in order for their child to attend the prom. If you would like to confirm your past participation in either of these presentations please contact the main office at the number listed below. Freshmen, sophomores, and students from other schools who attend as guests of juniors and seniors are also not required to have a parent attend. Parents may choose from the following presentations:

The Norwell Visiting Nurses Association will provide a free, walk-in, adult blood pressure and blood sugar screening clinic on Wednesday, March 18 at the Our Lady of the Lake Church from 10:00am to 11:00am. They will also answer questions about medications. Please call the Board of Health at 781-293-6768 for more information.

The Holmes Public Library Mystery Readers Book Club will meet on Wednesday, March 18 at 2pm to talk about Sworn to Silence, the first book in Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder series.

The Halifax Highway Department at 60 Hemlock Lane will accept brush at this location from 8am to noon on Saturday, March 28 from Halifax residents. No bags/piles of leaves or grass clippings. No large trees.

The Halifax Board of Selectmen has set up a public forum for Tuesday, March 31 at 7:00pm in the Great Hall of the Halifax Town Hall on two proposed by-laws, one creating an Agricultural Commission in Halifax and the other establishing a "Right to Farm" in Halifax. Both articles will appear on the warrant of the Annual Town Meeting on Monday, May 11, 2015. While the Board is hosting the forum, the Board wanted to provide an opportunity for proponents of the two proposed by-laws to present information and answer questions from residents and other interested parties. Copies of the proposed by-laws are attached to this posting.

The Silver Lake Middle School Parents Teachers Organization will meet on Wednesday, April 1 at 7pm in the Middle School Library. All are welcome to attend.

The Holiday Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday April 4th from 11am to 1pm at the Halifax Elementary School. The Bunny will be there-Anna and Elsa from Arendelle, TWO balloonists this year, and SO MUCH MORE. We are so excited! The Town of Halifax is offering its annual Rabies Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, at the Halifax Town Highway Barn on Hemlock Lane. This year’s clinic will run for only one (1) hour due to limited staffing availability. Clinic will administer rabies vaccination only: The one (1) year rabies vaccination or the three (3) year rabies booster. (Please bring proof that last year’s shot was less than a year ago (even one day) in order to be eligible for the three year booster.) Fee for each shot: $15.00. Senior Discount: $13.00.

The Halifax Elementary School PTO will meet on Friday, April 10 at 9am at the Halifax Elementary School.
