Town of Halifax - Calendar of Events - August 11 - September 11
The Holmes Public Library will hold a Touch a Truck event with police, fire, highway department trucks and a First Student school bus on Wednesday, August 12 from 6pm to 7pm at the Library. Free, fun, family event. Don't forget to bring a camera! Rain date August 19.

Writers group for adults, sponsored by the Holmes Public Library on Thursday, August 13 at 3pm and facilitated by participants. Work on your writing skills or simply get ideas. Come to the meeting and find out what other local writers are doing. All skill levels and styles are welcome.

Kickoff the 2015 Football Season with the 2nd Annual Gridiron Kickoff 5K on Saturday, August 15.  The race begins at 9:00 am with a start and finish line of Silver Lake Regional High School, 260 Pembroke Street, Kingston, MA.

The 4th Annual Silver Lake Hockey Booster/Silver Lake Alumni Golf Tournament will be held at Indian Pond Country Club on Monday, August 17th with a 1pm Shotgun Start and 12 pm Check in. Cost is $150.00 per golfer includes cart & dinner. $600 foursome. All money must be received by July 1st. Dinner only $40.00. Raffles prizes and silent auction items - and above all a great time! TOWN OF HALIFAX - PUBLIC HEARING: The Board of Selectmen will hold a Public Classification Hearing on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 7:45 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, 499 Plymouth Street, Halifax, MA for the purpose of allocating the local property tax levy among the five property classes for the Fiscal Year 2016 - Board of Selectmen: Kim R. Roy, Troy E. Garron, Thomas Millias.

The Halifax Council on Aging hosts its annual cookout at noon on Wednesday, August 19 on the Town Hall Green. Reserve your spot by calling the Council on Aging (781-293-7313) by Tuesday, August 11. Everyone wear Hawaiian.

Back by popular demand, the Senior Singers return to the Holmes Public Library for another performance on Tuesday, August 25 at 2pm.

All nomination papers for the vacant State Senate seat previous held by State Senator Tom Kennedy before his death must be submitted to the Town Clerk's Office no later than Tuesday, August 25 at 5pm.

The Halifax Highway Department at 60 Hemlock Lane will accept brush at this location from 8am to noon on Saturday, August 29 from Halifax residents. No bags/piles of leaves or grass clippings. No large trees.

International Overdose Awareness Day will be observed on the front lawn of the Halifax Police Station on Monday, August 31 from 9am to 9pm with signs and purple flags asking people to remember whose who have been lost and those that are trying to prevent these tragedies. Residents and others can wear purple on this day, too.

Wednesday, September 2, 2015 is the first day of school for the 2015-2016 school year at Halifax Elementary School, Silver Lake Middle School and Silver Lake High School.

The Halifax Recycling Center will hold its monthly hazardous waste collection day on Saturday, September 5 from 7:30am to 12:30pm at the Recycling Center, 917 Plymouth Street. All household hazardous waste must be in the original labeled sealed container; container cannot be leaking or rusted. No Exceptions.

Monday, September 7 is Labor Day. Most Town buildings and services are closed. Schools are closed.

Celebrate the library's 21st anniversary and the return of Saturday hours on Saturday, September 12, with a noontime concert by Ginamark, a popular local band from Kingston who entertain crowds with a mix of pop, rock, and country music from the 50s through today. Bring your own brown bag lunch, and the Friends of the Library will provide cold drinks and ice cream or Popsicles. The open-air performance will be moved inside to the Community Room in case of rain or threatening weather. Indoor seating will be limited. This anniversary concert is funded by the Halifax Cultural Council, a local agency funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
