Be sure to read the following information below before making your ONLINE PAYMENT. Feel free to call our office at 781-294-8381 during regular scheduled business hours with any questions you have about the ONLINE PAYMENT system. The office is open Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM. It may be open other hours from time to time. Please call the office to confirm.
If you are paying an overdue bill, do not use the ONLINE PAYMENT option. Contact the Collector's Office to determine the full amount, including any penalties and/or interest.
The Deputy Collector, Hobin & Hobin, must be contacted at 508-747-4344 for all overdue motor vehicle excise tax payments. Payments may be made to the Collector-Treasurer's office by money order only. Hobin & Hobin will collect cash, money orders or credit/debit cards. They will also accept credit card payments over the telephone. They are located at 40 Industrial Park Road, #303 in Plymouth, MA. Their hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Payments may be made by mailing checks and/or money orders made out to "Town of Halifax" to Halifax Collector-Treasurer's Office, 499 Plymouth Street, Halifax, MA 02338. Please include a copy of your bill or, in the memo section of the check, specify the type of bill, year, and bill number (for instance, "Motor Vehicle, 2015, #1234"). In addition, you can hand-deliver the check and copy of the bill to the Collector-Treasurer's office when the office is open or drop them off when the office is not open in the white mailbox located to the left of the entrance doors on the parking lot side of Town Hall.
Please make sure that you have sufficient available funds in your bank account before you pay online. Payments made before midnight on weekdays will be credited to accounts with an effective date the same as the date paid; weekend payments will be credited on the following Monday. In the event of a holiday, payments will be credited as of the next business day. Depending on volume, it may take 24-48 hours for your payments to be reflected on line.
If you pay on-line, you will be charged a service fee that will be in addition to and not part of the amount that you pay the Town. This fee will vary depending on how you pay (electronic check, debit card, credit card) and which debit/credit card company you use. If you do not wish to pay this fee, then you should make use of one of the other payment options listed above. Information about the fees is available at the on-line payment site.
Interest may accrue on past due amounts.
All tax payments are due on the due dates or the following business day if the due date falls on a weekend or a holiday.
If a misposted payment is discovered, an adjustment will be made reversing any incorrect credit that could result in interest due.
Any payments that are returned for insufficient funds must be resolved directly with the Treasurer/Collector's office and another online payment for the same item should be done. Replacement funds must be made in cash, bank check or money order with an additional $25.00 returned check fee included.
