The Town of Halifax is seeking applications for an Administrative Assistant in the Treasurer/Collector Department. Candidates for this 36 hour/week position must possess exceptional public service, record-keeping, customer service and administrative support skills. Responsibilities include responding to Departmental inquiries, Inquiries from Residents and inquiries from outside vendors. Processing accounts payable; receipting of payments; and assisting with various departmental programs and activities. Knowledge of local government is a must. Requires two to five years job-related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with MS Office applications preferred. Must have working knowledge of the SoftRight programs and applications. Principal Assessor/Appraiser

The Town of Halifax seeks qualified applicants for the full-time position of Principal Assessor/Appraiser to work under the direction of the Board of Assessors. Responsible for highly complex administrative, supervisory, and professional work in appraising and assessing real and personal property; in planning, managing and directing the activities of the Assessing Department; and in assisting the Board of Assessors with municipal tax assessment activities; related work as required. The Assessor is responsible for documenting new growth, the completion and submission of the tax recap to the DOR and setting the tax rate each year. Testifies and represents the Board of Assessors at hearings before the Appellate Tax Board. Negotiates payment In lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreements. Responsible for providing related financial information, analysis and consultation with other Finance Team members and Boards and for the management of all activities of the Assessors' Office, including staff, records and systems.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in a related field or a minimum of five years experience in assessing administration. MAA designation required and must be maintained throughout appointment. Must have valid Mass Driver's license and reliable transportation. Experience in computer assisted Mass Appraisal with PK Valuation Group appraisal software a plus.

Annual Salary range: $64,781 to $73,833, with 6 steps. This is a 40-hour work week.

Job Description: Walking, standing, climbing and lifting for extended times periods throughout the work day.
Custodial Duties will include the following but not limited to: office, restrooms and building related cleaning assignments. Maintenance will include the following but not limited to: light carpentry, painting, minor plumbing and electrical repairs and snow shoveling walkways in and around buildings along with other assigned duties. Working environment involves being outside at times during periods of hot and wintry weather. This department oversee to five town buildings for custodial work and fourteen town buildings in which maintenance is overseen.

Sealer of Weights and Measures
The Town of Halifax is accepting applications for a part-time Sealer of Weights and Measures. Annual salary is $2,568. No benefits. Position performs inspection and enforcement functions for the Weights and Measures Department and ensures for the proper working order or scales, measuring devices, scanners, and related equipment used publicly throughout the town.  Work includes conducting inspections; interpreting and enforcing state codes, town by-laws, and applicable regulations. This position is for Adults who supervise or assist weekly recreation camps (On Stage, winter and summer camps), Special Events (Egg Hunt, Holidays in Halifax, Halifax in Lights, and Dances). The Supervisor may be asked to fill in for Recreation Director when the need arises if Director cannot be at event.  This is a position with limited hours during the year. Certification in CPR and First Aid are recommended but not required. Must be able to drive a 15 passenger van. Pay is $19.53 per hour

This position is for High school age boys and girls who assist weekly recreation camps (On Stage, winter and summer camps), Special Events (Egg Hunt, Holidays in Halifax, Halifax in Lights, and Dances). Duties include supervising children in varies recreational activities. Instructors are also responsible for cleaning gym, lobby, and lobby bathrooms. Also instructors may be used in keeping fields and parks clean. (Youth sports programs are responsible to keep fields clean.) Aide/ Helpers are used when needed. Aide/Helpers assist instructors as gym monitors. This position is seasonal. Wage rate is the MA minimum wage (as of 1/1/2016, that is $10.00/hr.
