The West Monponsett Pond is currently "Closed,"  The East Monponsett Pond is currently "Open." http://www.town.halifax.ma.us/Pages/HalifaxMA_Health/Beach

On Monday, September 11th, MassDEP collected water samples from East and West Monponsett Ponds.  MassDEP analyzed the samples between September 11-12th

The East Monponsett Pond samples collected showed:
Rt 36 boat ramp, Holmes Street Beach, showed a cyanobacteria level of 10,304 cells/ml.

The West Monponsett Pond samples collected at:
4th Avenue, Lingan Street Beach, showed cyanobacteria levels of 61,496 cells/ml, and
The state boat ramp, (Rte 58), showed cyanobacteria levels of 97,996 cells/ml.

The sample results from East Monponsett Pond and West Monponsett Pond at the 4th Ave beach are below the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml, while the sample result from the West Monponsett Pond at the state boat ramp is above it.

MDPH recommends that the West Monponsett Pond current advisories remain in place and "Beach Closed" signs be posted.  The pond should not be used for swimming, boating, fishing, jet-skiing, etc. There is no swimming at any time at the Rt 58 Boat Ramp (State Boat Ramp.)

MassDEP plans on sampling again next week.
