The Town of Halifax is sponsoring a workshop on affordable housing projects, sometimes called "Chapter 40B" projects, on Wednesday, October 22 at 7pm in the Great Hall of the Halifax Town Hall, 499 Plymouth Street. Under state statute, applicants for comprehensive permits for these projects are allowed to apply to the Zoning Board of Appeals for variances from any and all of the Town's zoning by-laws in order to build projects for which at least 25% of the housing units are considered to affordable (whether for rent or for sale). This workshop will review each of the
steps in this process including decisions on site plan approval from the State, comprehensive permits from the Zoning Board of Appeals, and any appeals from the decisions of the Zoning Board of Appeals by the applicant or other interested parties.
The presenter will be Ezra Haber Glenn of Public Planning, Research, & Implementation of Somerville, MA. This workshop will be general in nature and not specific to any project that has been proposed. The workshop is open to everyone including municipal officials from Halifax and other communities and the general public. The workshop is free and registration is not required but encouraged in order to have enough seats and workshop materials. For more information and to register, please contact the Halifax Board of Selectmen's Office at 781-294-1316.
