From Halifax Fire Chief, Jason Viveiros:
Today the Halifax Fire Department received notification from our congressional delegation that it has been chosen to receive a $714,210 award from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), for the purchase of a new aerial platform firefighting vehicle.
This is the second award that the Halifax Fire Department has received from the Assistance to Firefighters program this year. In April, the department received a grant for $23,469 to purchase Lucas chest compression devices for both of its ambulances.
Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) are designed to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to~protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
We would like to thank Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Ed Markey and Congressman Bill Keating for their tireless support throughout the grant process.
