From Cathy Drinan, Halifax Board of Health Agent:
On Tuesday, September 15th, MDPH collected a water sample from West Monponsett Pond at 4th Avenue Beach in Halifax. Laboratory analysis showed cyanobacteria levels of 84,000 cells/ml, above the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml. Microcystin toxin was not detected.
Charlie: My guess is that last week's rainfall helped increase Pond circulation and a slightly greater draw downstream. However, there is no rain in the forecast between now and next Tuesday when the next sample occurs. My hope is that the Brockton Water Department will open the sluice gate so that the circulation and draw occurs, helping to discourage algae growth.
