The Town of Halifax, through complaints to the Board of Health and Board of Selectmen, has been notified about odor problems in the southern part of Halifax emanating from a compost facility in Middleborough. The Board of Health and Board of Selectmen care about these complaints and are taking them seriously. The Town is working with the Town of Middleborough and the MA Department of Environmental Protection to stay informed as to the resolution of the problem. The Town of Middleborough is engaged in active zoning enforcement procedures and is reviewing other measures. The
regional office of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has been notified about these issues and continues to monitor the situation.

When contacting the agencies listed above, it would be helpful to include the date and time that you encountered these odors and a description of these odors.
The Town understands that the odors are a serious quality of life issue. The Board of Health does not have the equipment or ability to measure the air quality. However, we will ask the Department of Environmental Protection if they can do so or give the Town an assurance as to the safety of the air in south Halifax.
