Hydrant/Water Main Flushing
The Halifax Water Department will start flushing the water mains on or about May 4, 2015. The mains will be flushed between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 12:00 midnight Monday through Thursday and subdivisions (for instance, Cranberry Drive, Clyde O. Bosworth, Highland Woods, Cedar Lane) may be flushed between 10:00am and 2:00pm. This work will continue until the entire system is flushed and will take approximately two (2) weeks, weather permitting. Water users should check the water for discoloration before using it to wash light colored clothing.
The discolored water is safe for human consumption as it is caused by harmless sediment that has been stirred up from the bottom of the mains. The discoloration will clear up in a short period of time.
We apologize for any inconvenience the flushing may cause, but it must be done to maintain the quality of water to which you are accustomed.
