The West Monponsett Pond is currently "Open,"  The East Monponsett Pond is currently "Open." http://www.town.halifax.ma.us/Pages/HalifaxMA_Health/Beach

On Monday, October 10th, MassDEP collected and analyzed the water samples from East and West Monponsett Ponds on Octoer 10th.

The East Monponsett Pond samples collected showed:
Rt 36 boat ramp, Holmes Street Beach, showed a cyanobacteria level of 395 cells/ml.

The West Monponsett Pond samples collected at:
4th Avenue, Lingan Street Beach, showed cyanobacteria levels of 3,169 cells/ml, and
The state boat ramp, (Rte 58), showed cyanobacteria levels of 4,746 cells/ml.

These sample results are below the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml.

According to MDPH guidelines, samples collected a week apart with levels below the guidelines are required before MDPH can recommend that the advisory be lifted.  The results above are the second low samples, so the advisory for West Monponsett Pond can be rescinded.

MassDEP plans on sampling again next week.
